As always on Wednesday, I'm featuring a lovely book that I am simply drooling over the ability to read...soon. This one is the third (and most likely final) installment in the Hex Hall series by Rachel Hawkins, so be aware of the spoilers in the summary below. Check out my thoughts on the first two books Hex Hall & Demonglass. That's right ladies & gents I'm talking about Spell Bound due on a bookshelf near you March 13th. I hate to see a good thing end, but Rachel has said that she'd love to continue writing in the universe, so maybe it won't be goodbye after all. Anywhoodle, on to the goodness!

How amazing does that sound for a finale? I really have enjoyed the characters & universe that Rachel Hawkins has created. Sophie is a fun gal & her sidekicks are pretty awesome too. Here's hoping she can bring it to a thrilling close.

If you've been reading my blog for any length of time, or have had the chance to scan my archives, you might have seen a fair bit of the name Patricia Briggs. I absolutely adore her work & she is the reason I began to branch out of my comfort zone in reading. Fair Game is the 3rd installment in the Alpha and Omega series that was born of her ever-popular Mercy Thompson series. This latest story will be released to the masses on March 6th. Be forewarned, there is a bit of spoilery type information, but nothing major in the summary. Enjoy!

While I absolutely adore the Mercy Thompson series, this one has a richer dynamic between the main characters that I just can't resist. Charles & Anna are mesmerizing to watch no matter what they're doing. Not to mention the events that beleaguer them are always unique. I hope you're as excited for this one as I am & if you haven't started yet, now is the time!

I'm rather stoked that the release date of the much-anticipated sequel to Lauren Oliver's Delirium, Pandemonium has been moved up to February 28th! If you haven't read this one yet, I'm not sure what you were doing in late 2010, early 2011. Seriously. It was fantastic! Don't believe me? Check out my non-spoilery review.

While I don't think this gives enough detail about what might take place in the next installment, I kind of think that's a good thing. After the roller coaster ride that was the first book, this one is sure to follow in the same footsteps. Giving too much in the summary might detract from its appeal. Okay, so Fever is the highly anticipated sequel in the Chemical Garden series by Lauren DeStefano. It's February 12th release date has long been awaited by those of us who devoured the first book. I read it super fast & then passed it on to my sister who squeed right alongside me. Now we get to go through it all again.

Rhine and Gabriel have escaped the mansion, but danger is never far behind.

Running away brings Rhine and Gabriel right into a trap, in the form of a twisted carnival whose ringmistress keeps watch over a menagerie of girls. Just as Rhine uncovers what plans await her, her fortune turns again. How fabulous does that sound? I'm notorious for bashing book 2 of most series because I find that it ends up being a filler novel with no real meat to it. This one promises to defy that stereotype. I look forward to it.

Waiting on Wednesday: Trafficked by Kim Purcell

This week I'm not really focused on books too much because we just got the news that we got approved for our apartment. My husband & I have been separated (by 800 miles) & living with family since May 2010. This apartment will mark the first time we've gotten to live together, alone, since then. I think I have sufficient reason to be distracted. :D

Anywhoodle, this week I'm most intrigued by the February 16th release of Trafficked by Kim Purcell. While the storyline itself has been "ripped from the headlines" this is a first for this kind of story in the YA genre (that I'm aware of). Read on for the details.

Hannah believes she's being brought from Moldova to Los Angeles to become a nanny for a Russian family. But her American dream quickly spirals into a nightmare. The Platonovs force Hannah to work sixteen-hour days, won't let her leave the house, and seem to have a lot of secrets - from Hannah and from each other. Stranded in a foreign land with false documents, no money, and nobody who can help her, Hannah must find a way to save herself from her new status as a modern-day slave or risk losing the one thing she has left: her life.

How absolutely terrifying would that be? In the US alone there are between 14,500 & 17,500 people trafficked in annually (CNN). While this is sure to be a harrowing story, not all trafficked individuals are "fortunate" enough to end up in Hannah's circumstance. I have a feeling that this book will be a tough one to read, not just because of the subject matter, but also because of how I think the writing will be stylized. Either way, I'm up for the challenge. Who's with me?

Also, I just found an interesting (and kind of scary story) about the amount of prostitution & sex trafficking for major sporting events. There are several organizations trying to raise awareness about this travesty. Read the original article.

It being 2012 and all, we knew I wouldn't be able to go long without an apocalyptic book on my WOW. Article 5 by Kristen Simmons promises to be everything I liked about the societies in Matched and Delirium & the obstacles of the Life as We Knew It series. January 31st can't get here fast enough!

New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C., have been abandoned.

The Bill of Rights has been revoked, and replaced with the Moral Statutes.

There are no more police—instead, there are soldiers. There are no more fines for bad behavior—instead, there are arrests, trials, and maybe worse. People who get arrested usually don't come back.

While I could do without the star-crossed-lovers effect, I have a feeling that this book will have some of the same great story-telling & plot/world building that I have come to lavish in in this genre.

I seem to be feeling a bit edgier than usual, hence my WOW pick of In Too Deep by Amanda Grace/Mandy Hubbard. It's February 8th release date is fast approaching. Take a peak inside this dark & startling world.

I never meant for anyone to get hurt. All I wanted to do that night was make a play for Carter Davis. His heartless rejection was mortifying, but people got the wrong idea when they saw me leaving his bedroom, crying. That’s how rumors of rape started.

Now girls at school are pouring out their sympathy to me. Guys too. But not everyone’s on my side. The school has become a war zone and the threats are getting scary. What began as poetic justice has morphed into something bigger-forcing me to make a terrible choice.

Wow... I'm rather speechless at the implications this book raises. I can understand onlookers' honest mistake of what might have taken place, but the fact that the main character doesn't immediately correct them shocks me. This dilemma reminds me of Testify where the main character doesn't actually see a crime, but agrees to testify to it anyway to protect her friend. If you get a chance, both of these seem to on the edgier side of YA & definitely worth a look.

This week I am totally pumped for the January 19th release of Truth, the sequel to Julia Karr's smash hit XVI. Nina is such a mesmerizing character that I couldn't help but get carried away in her story. Now we get to find out what happens next.

How awesome does that sound? I mean getting your life turned on it's head is one thing, but this is a whole new level of intense. With compelling writing, memorable characters, & seat-clenching action in the first book I have no doubt that Truth will succeed at its task of being awesome.

Don't Breathe a Word by Holly Cupala is set to come out January 3 of 2012. It's rather crazy to think that I'm already gearing up to read 2012 releases & it's only October! This one sounds very real in a gritty, but not overly gripping way. I might just enjoy it. :)

I like the sound of this book & what the description says takes place. Books where the main character has a self-actualizing transformation can be some of the most uplifting books to read. Honestly, this one sounds along the same lines as Elisa Carbone's Jump which I thoroughly enjoyed as well. Here's hoping this one is just as good. What are you waiting on this week?

Seriously. *swoon* It sounds so much like Simone Elkeles & Jennifer Hubbard that I'm really excited. There might even be a touch of Jennifer Echols in there somewhere. It sounds like a typical "good girl falling for wrong boy" type of story, but something about that cover & the background (no father? sisters? pressure?) lead me to believe that this one might be a gem of a story. This week I'm looking forward to the November 8th release of the 2nd installment in the As the World Dies: A Zombie Trilogy entitled Fighting to Survive by Rhiannon Frater. There don't seem to be spoilers in the blurb, but read at your own risk if you haven't read The First Days.

Picking up where The First Days ends, Fighting to Survive features the further zombie-killing, civilization-saving adventures of a pair of sexy, kick butt heroines and the men who love them. A hundred or so survivors of the zombie plague have found tenuous safety in the walled off center of a small Texas town. Now, if you haven't gotten the chance to read the first one yet and are on the fence, be sure to read my review of The First Days. It was surprising entertaining. There wasn't a whole lot to laugh at, I mean this is a vicious zombie apocalypse, but it was still a good read. I'm not sure how well the zombies are faring in the paranormal/sci-fi genre, but I seem to enjoy a few here & there. This is a keeper, so I'm excited to see the story continue! So you may not know this, but I'm a decent sized fan of classical literature. I enjoy the writing quality, the terminology & the scandals so much better! Darker Still (Magic Most Foul #1) by Leanna Renee Hieber is perfect because it seems to blend all these things together. Due for release on November 1 from Sourcefire Books, this is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.

The Picture of Dorian Gray meets Pride and Prejudice, with a dash of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

How mesmerizing does that sound? It really is all those classics rolled up into one! Provided the author keeps the mystery going & depicts the time period with accuracy & reverence, this could shape up to be one of the best historical fiction books since The Vespertine. Words do not fully encompass the desire that I harbor for the October 11th release of Mette Ivie Harrison's Tris & Izzie. This book is one that I absolutely must buy to go on the shelf with my other "modern retellings." Of all the love stories ever written, I truly think this one to be one of my favorites. Close behind it is A Midsummer Night's Dream, but Tristan and Isolde is such a mesmerizing tale, along the lines of Arthur & Guinevere, that I am helpless to resist.

A modern retelling of the German fairytale "Tristan and Isolde", Tris and Izzie is about a young witch named Izzie who is dating Mark King, the captain of the basketball team and thinks her life is going swimmingly well. Until -- she makes a love potion for her best friend Brangane and then ends up taking it herself accidentally, and falling in love with Tristan, the new guy at school.

I believe another drool-factor to be the cover. I could definitely see this posted up on my wall. There are very few book covers I could look at day after day, but this is definitely one of the ones I would choose to look at all the time. Let's hope it lives up to my desires! I know you're probably thinking that this sounds a lot like Angelfire and Falling Under that I was only lukewarm about. While I think they have some characteristics in common, I think that this one might be more up my alley. I seem to have become more particular in my reading tastes lately & Carrier of the Mark just seems to fit the bill a little better than these others. What do you think? I read the first book & while not as enrapturing as the Luxe series, this one did have all the same hallmarks. There was a variable ensemble of characters & a unique twist on bootlegging/flapper society of the late 1920's. It's a Waiting on Wednesday double-header celebrating the ever-awesome Ellen Hopkins! She's actually got two books coming out in the next two months & I can't wait to get them both! Perfect (Impulse #2) is releasing on 9/13 & Triangles (an adult book) is releasing 10/18. I think I'm really going to enjoy Perfect because it sounds like one of the best books to put forward in my library for my YASaves display I'm planning. :D

How AMAZING do both of those sound?! It looks like her adult novel is going to have the same style as her teen novels & deal with the same kind of pull & tug that I have come to relish in her characters. So while I have yet to review Claire de Lune (somehow that fell off my radar), I did enjoy the first novel in this series. Claire is such a fun character to watch grow. Now I'm gearing up for the August 23rd release of Nocturne (Claire de Lune #2) by Christine Johnson. We're picking up where we left off after the first book, so beware as spoilers may follow!

While we were introduced to Claire's new-to-her lifestyle at the same time she is coming to grips with the situation, we're now moving ahead with her adjustment to her new being. Christine Johnson doesn't really follow the prescribed model for teen werewolf books and I find that refreshing. Keep your eyes peeled for my upcoming review of Claire de Lune & for its sequel's release!

I am so ready for the August 23rd release of Sweetly (Sisters Red #2) by Jackson Pearce. This loosely related series are re-imagined folk tales of stories we all know & most of us love. Sisters Red was a twist on Little Red Riding Hood where "Little Red" became the hunter. In Sweetly we start anew with 2 new characters, with a tie-in Reynolds character that is a re-imagining of Hansel & Gretel. The Fenris are still snatching girls, but this time there is an accomplice.

Twelve years ago, Gretchen, her twin sister, and her brother went looking for a witch in the forest. They found something. Maybe it was a witch, maybe a monster, they aren’t sure—they were running too fast to tell. Either way, Gretchen’s twin sister was never seen again.

Years later, after being thrown out of their house, Gretchen and Ansel find themselves in Live Oak, South Carolina, a place on the verge of becoming a ghost town. Waiting on Wednesday: Chain Reaction (Perfect Chemistry #3) by Simone Elkeles

I have to admit that I am utterly entranced by Simone Elkeles' work. Chain Reaction is the third book in the Perfect Chemistry series staring the scrumptious Fuentes brothers. Scheduled for an August 16, this book will wrap up the trilogy. Read all about the youngest Fuentes brother's behavior.

Luis Fuentes is a good boy who doesn't live with the angst that his big brothers, Alex and Carlos, have always lived with. Luis is smart, funny, and has big dreams of becoming an astronaut. But when he falls for the wrong girl, Luis enters a dark world he's never known, and just when he thinks he's got life all figured out, learns some disturbing news about his family that destroys his positive outlook on life. Will that Fuentes bad boy streak come out with a vengeance and lure Luis to live on the edge like his new girlfriend and his own father?

While Alex & Carlos are scrumptious in that "bad boy" way, Luis was also so sweet & kind in that goody-goody way. It's not that he's squeaky clean, but compared to his shady older brothers, this boy is practically a saint. I'm really interested to see what kind of trouble this girl will get him into & what family news will rock this world. Hopefully the older brothers will make an appearance in this finale!

I know I have already read & reviewed this book, but it definitely warrants its own WOW. Want to Go Private? by Sarah Darer Littman is coming out August 1st & I really wish it was in my budget to buy this one. This is such a good parable for the current generations that I highly recommend it to anyone who works with adolescents.

Abby and Luke chat online. They've never met. But they are going to. Soon.

Abby is starting high school—it should be exciting, so why doesn't she care? Everyone tells her to "make an effort," but why can't she just be herself? Abby quickly feels like she's losing a grip on her once-happy life. The only thing she cares about anymore is talking to Luke, a guy she met online, who understands. It feels dangerous and yet good to chat with Luke—he is her secret, and she's his. Then Luke asks her to meet him, and she does. But Luke isn't who he says he is. When Abby goes missing, everyone is left to put together the pieces. If they don't, they'll never see Abby again.
